This Week: WSU (5-11 overall; 1-5 Pac-10) will host No. 22 California and No. 10 Stanford as Pac-10 play continues...the California Golden Bears (11-4 overall; 2-3 Pac-10) visit Beasley Coliseum Thursday for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off...the Cougars then play host to the Stanford Cardinal (12-3 overall; 5-0 Pac-10), ranked 10th nationally, Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

Cougar Recap: Washington State traveled south to face No. 13 Arizona State and Arizona in the third week of Pac-10 action...the Cougars took on 13th-ranked Arizona State Thursday, Jan. 4, falling 89-44...Katie Appleton led all Cougar scorers with nine points while Kate Benz pulled down eight rebounds...WSU looked to pick up a win against the Arizona Wildcats Saturday, Jan. 6...the Cougars led by as many as 11 points in the first half and owned a 32-24 lead at halftime...Arizona quickly came back, however, and owned a two-point lead in the final seconds of play...WSU's Amanda DuRocher tried to win it for the Cougars with a three-pointer, but the attempt failed...Wildcats finished with the 59-57 victory...Cougars were paced by sophomore Katie Appleton's career-high 22 points...freshman Marisa Stotler added 10 points and six rebounds while Kate Benz recorded 12 rebounds.

Scouting the Golden Bears: California comes to the Palouse ranked 22nd in the nation...the Golden Bears are paced by sophomore Ashley Walker who is averaging 18.0 ppg...sophomore Devanei Hampton is averaging 14.0 ppg and 5.4 rpg in conference play...most recently, California defeated Rhode Island 65-53 Jan. 2 for its 23rd consecutive home non-conference victory...the Golden Bears dropped a 69-44 decision to then-No. 12 Stanford Jan. 6...Walker posted 16 points and 12 rebounds in the loss, her sixth double-double of the season...California has a large freshman impact this season...Lauren Greif is posting 9.0 ppg and Natasha Vital, who has started the last six games in a row, turned in career highs in assists and rebounds against the Arizona Wildcats Dec. 30...Rama N'diaye is the Golden Bears' top bench contributor with 6.1 ppg and 3.0 rpg...head coach Joanne Boyl is in her second season with California...last season, under Boyle's direction, the program earned its first NCAA bid since the 1992-93 season.

Scouting the Cardinal: No. 10 Stanford picked up their tenth consecutive victory, defeating South Carolina 69-54 Monday night...the Cardinal's leading scorer is two-time All-American Candice Higgins who is averaging 15.7 ppg...senior Brooke Smith is posting a 13.9 ppg average and totaled a season-high 28 points against South Carolina...Jayne Appel is the third Cardinal to average double figures in scoring with 12.0 ppg...the freshman also leads the team in blocks with 27...head coach Tara VanDerveer is in her 21st season with Stanford...the Cardinal will face the Washington Huskies in Seattle Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
