PULLMAN, Wash. - Hayden Homes, a Redmond, Oregon based home building company, will be the title sponsor of the 2000 Cougar Shootout, a four-team women's basketball tournament hosted by Washington State University at the Spokane Arena Dec. 8-9, according to J.D. Griffith, WSU Director of Marketing.

The Idaho Vandals, Portland Pilots and the Toledo Rockets will join WSU in the two-day tournament.

"Spokane Arena is tremendously excited to be a partner with WSU in hosting this great women's basketball event," said Amy Brown, Assistant General Manager of the Spokane Arena.

The Hayden Homes Cougar Shootout will serve as a prelude to the NCAA Women's West Regional, March 24 & 26 at the Arena.

"The NCAA West Regional is the marquee event in the Spokane Arena's 2000-01 calendar of events," said Brown. "The Hayden Homes Cougar Shootout is an integral part of the West Regional."

Game times for the Hayden Homes Cougar Shootout will be at 6:00 and 8:00 p.m., with the Cougars featured in the second game Friday, December 8. The consolation game of the tournament Saturday, Dec. 9, will be played at 6:00 p.m., with the championship game scheduled to follow at approximately 8:00 p.m.

"This is a great opportunity for the people of the Inland Northwest to see some outstanding NCAA women's basketball," said WSU coach Jenny Przekwas. "This tournament gives us a chance to play in front of our `other home crowd' in Spokane."

Hayden Homes, founded in 1989, has communities in 18 cities throughout the Northwest, including four in the Spokane area.

In describing Hayden Homes' continuing support of Washington State University Athletics, Hayden Homes President Dennis Murphy stated, "Hayden Homes and WSU Cougar Athletics share a common goal of excellence in everything we do. Our common goals and visions have enabled our sponsorship and donation efforts to be successful."

"We are grateful to Hayden Homes for their sponsorship of this great WSU Women's Basketball event," commented WSU Athletic Director Jim Sterk. "Hayden Homes, with their continued support of our program, has done a tremendous amount for Cougar Athletics and our student-athletes."
