MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.(AP) - Jamie Broback scored 16 points to lead No. 14 Minnesota to a 83-57 victory over Washington State on Saturday night.
The Gophers (6-1) extended their home winning streak to four games, while Washington State (6-2) had its four-game winning streak stopped.
Broback, making her first start of the season, sat out much of the first half because of foul trouble. She finished with 7-for-12 shooting, six assists and five rebounds.
Shannon Schonrock shot 6-for-8 and finished with 15 points. April Calhoun scored 13 and Liz Podominick had 10 for the Gophers.
The Gophers took control early, getting 3-pointers from Schonrock, Shannon Bolden and Kelly Roysland during a 19-4 run that pushed the lead to 26-10 lead. After the Cougars closed within 29-19, Minnesota went on a 16-2 run to take a 47-21 lead early in the second half.
Minnesota, still looking for answers in the middle following the departure of all-American center Janel McCarville, had a 32-31 rebounding edge.
Katie Appleton had 13 points for the Cougars, who wrapped up their non-conference schedule and play their first Pac-10 game Dec. 20 against Stanford in Pullman, Wash. Katie Benz scored 12 and Charmaine Jones had 10 for Washington State.
