PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State senior Kate Benz was named to the 2007 CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII University Division Women's Basketball First Team, it was announced Thursday. Benz is now eligible for selection to the national team.
Benz carries a 3.82 grade point average as a double major in Communications and History. The Portland, Ore. native leads WSU in rebounding, averaging 7.0 rebounds per game. Benz led the Pacific-10 Conference in rebounds in 2005 and 2006 and is currently second on WSU's all-time career rebound list. With 856 career rebounds, the 6-foot-2 forward is only 20 rebounds shy of becoming WSU's all-time career rebound leader.
This marks the second time that Benz has been named a first team selection as she also earned the honor in 2005. Benz is the first Cougar women's basketball player to earn two first team selections.
Washington State faces No. 11 Stanford Thursday, Feb. 8 at 7:00 p.m. at Maples Pavilion. The Cougars then travel to No. 20 California for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off Saturday, Feb. 10.
