PULLMAN, Wash. – Former Washington State women’s basketball forward Sage Romberg has signed a professional contract to play in Spain this fall.

Romberg will play for C.R.E.F. Hola Madrid out of Madrid, Spain, a Division 2 professional team in the Spanish League. The team begins play later this fall in late October and the season runs through April. Romberg is the latest Cougar to sign a professional contract in the past three years, joining Rosetta Adzasu (Finland), Jazmine Perkins (Sweden and Israel), Ireti Amojo (Germany) and Carly Noyes (Germany).

Romberg was four-year letterwinner for the Cougars, setting a program record with 129 games played and starting 101 games, sixth-most in school history. The McKinleyville, Calif. native finished her career No. 14 on the school’s scoring list with 1,033 points, fourth in 3-pointers (141), fourth in 3-point shooting percentage (36.7), fifth in blocks (93) and totaled 603 rebounds, 176 assists and 97 steals. Romberg posted a career 39.4 shooting percentage, earned All-Pacific-10 Conference honorable mention and All-Freshmen Team honors and was a two-time All-Academic selection.

As a senior, Romberg was third on team in scoring (9.1 ppg), second in rebounding (5.9 rpg) and blocks (34) and shot a team-best 39.5 percent from behind the arc. Romberg finished the season with 17 double figure scoring efforts and closed her career with a season-high 18 points in the Cougars’ WNIT first-round game, the program’s first postseason appearance in 24 years.
