Three Cougars Named to GTE Academic All-District VIII Teams

Two are from women's track, one from men's.

PULLMAN, Wash. - Three Washington State spring sports student-athletes have been honored with selections to the 1998 GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII teams.

Track and field competitors Kristen Koch, Molly Moore, and Matt Stadelman were named to the Women's and Men's Spring At-Large Teams. Ten student-athletes are selected for each team with Academic All-American honors accorded based on a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade point average, being a starter or important reserve and be in their second season at the current school.

Koch is a senior jumper from Renton, Wash., has a 3.72 GPA in her zoology/pre-med major. Koch placed fifth at the Pac-10 Track Championships last weekend and has a lifetime-best mark of 41 feet, 1/4 inch, fourth-best in school history.

Moore is a junior thrower from Kalispell, Mont., carries a 3.75 GPA in her biology major. Moore holds the school record in the hammer throw with a toss of 172-3 which is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Moore finished sixth in the hammer and 10th in the shot put at the 1998 Pac-10 Track & Field Championships. She received the WSU YMCA Athletic Director's Female Athlete Award for the 1997-98 school year and has been selected as WSU's representative to the 1998 NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference May25-26 at Disney World.

Stadelman is a senior javelin thrower from Ephrata, Wash. Stadelman graduated from WSU this year with a 3.63 GPA in mathematics, after spending all four years in the Honors Program. He placed third at the 1998 Pac-10 Track & Field Championships and his lifetime-best toss of 224 feet, seven inches is 20th nationally this season. Stadelman received the WSU YMCA Athletic Director's Male Athlete Award for the 1997-98 school year. Stadelman earned second team GTE Dist. VIII Academic All-American honors last year.

The district selections will be placed on the national ballots and the 1998 GTE Academic All-America At-Large Teams will be announced Thursday, June 18. The GTE Academic All-America teams are selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Washington State Cougars Men's Basketball
