PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - Jerry McNair scored 26 points, including nine during Washington State's 16-5 run late in the second half, as the Cougars beat Texas-Pan American 70-67 Friday night.
Mike Chatman led Texas-Pan American (5-3) with 29 points.
Washington State (4-2) struggled most of the night, shooting just 43 percent from the field and committing 14 turnovers.
The Cougars took a 63-59 lead on back-to-back 3-pointers by McNair with 4:34 remaining. But the Broncos made a late run of their own, cutting the Washington State lead to 68-67 on a Kevin Mitchell 3-point shot with 13 seconds remaining.
WSU's Mike Bush hit two free throws to give the Cougars a 70-67 lead with two seconds left. After a Texas turnover, Mitchell intercepted a Cougars inbounds pass and lofted what appeared to be a 3-point shot over the backboard as time expired. Officials ruled the shot was out-of-bounds.
