WSU FACES FOUR ROAD GAMES: The WSU Cougars, 17-32 overall and 5-13 in Pacific-10 Conference play, step out of league Tuesday to meet the LCSC Warriors in Lewiston, then head to Los Angeles to take on the USC Trojans in a three-game series Friday.

Tuesday's contest at LCSC starts at 6:00 p.m. at Harris Field. WSU's starting pitcher was not known Monday. WSU's weekend pitching staff at USC is in question since ace Tony Banaszak may not be available. The Cougar left hander pulled a muscle in his back against Washington and did not see action last weekend. Bryce Chamberlin (4-5, 6.81 ERA, 76.2 innings) and Aaron MacKenzie (4-4, 5.86, 76.2) will start against the Trojans, but the order of WSU's rotation will not be known until Banaszak's status is determined. If Banaszak cannot pitch this weekend, either Garrett Alwert (2-5, 5.68, 31.2) or Karl Mejholm (2-3, 8.62, 31.1) will replace him.

Against Sacramento State last weekend, WSU as a team hit .417, belted 12 doubles, three triples and six home runs for a slugging percentage of .730.

Freshman outfielder Jay Miller and sophomore shortstop Derek Bruce each hit .600 (9-for-15) against Sacramento State as the Cougars won 17-11, 14-5 and then lost 15-14 in a rain shortened seven inning game Sunday.

Several other Cougars were hot at the plate last week, including Grant Richardson .545, Bruce Jacobsen .385, Jon Baeder .375 and Justin Hart .364.

Hart leads WSU at the plate with a .349 average, while Miller is hitting .339, Richardson .327 and Bruce .295.

Miller leads the team in hits, 62, runs scored, 35, doubles, 18, and at-bats, 183. Bruce's four triples leads WSU, while Richardson is the leader with 13 home runs and 44 RBI.

Banaszak's 5.61 ERA tops the mound staff, as does his 93 innings. MacKenzie and Chamberlin each have four victories, while Nick Kenyon has 22 appearances.
