PULLMAN, Wash. -- - Washington State allowed 11 hits in a 9-4 loss to Washington in Pacific-10 Conference action Saturday at Bailey-Brayton Field.

Bryce Chamberlin (3-5) tossed 6.2 innings, allowing nine hits and eight runs in the losing effort for WSU (14-31 overall, 4-13 Pac-10). Jeff Petersen (4-4) allowed three runs and three hits in notching the win for the Huskies (31-13, 8-6). Scott Robertson pitched three innings of relief, allowing one run and one hit, in recording his second save of the season.

Justin Hart led the Cougars at the plate, going 2-for-4. Grant Richardson hit his team-leading 10th home run of the season, a two-run blast in the bottom of the fourth inning. Chad Boudon led Washington with a 3-for-4 performance, hitting his Pac-10-leading 18th home run of the season.

After Washington completed its half of the first inning, the game was halted after 11 minutes of play by a rain delay that lasted nearly an hour-and-a-half.

When play resumed, the Huskies scored twice in the top of the second and once in the top of the fourth, taking a 3-0 lead.

But the Cougars answered in their half of the fourth. With one out and Hart on second base, Richardson hit a shot off the scoreboard in left center field, cutting the Washington lead to 3-2.

The Huskies added a run in the top of the fifth, but WSU responded by adding a run in the sixth.

With one out and the bases loaded, Jonathan Fender plated Hart on a sacrifice fly. The next batter, Steve Mortimer, flied out to left center field.

Washington then scored four runs in the seventh, three of which came on Boudon's homer off Chamberlin. Nick Kenyon replaced Chamberlin and recorded the inning's final out. Kenyon was effective in relief, allowing one run and two hits in 2.1 innings.

In the bottom of the seventh, Jay Miller's two-out single to center field scored Bruce Jacobsen, cutting the Huskies' lead to 8-4.

Washington added their final run in the top of the ninth. In the Cougars ninth, Robertson allowed a Jeremy Farrar double, before settling down to notch the save.

The teams complete the series tomorrow at 1 p.m. WSU is expected to send Aaron MacKenzie to the mound.
