Pac-10 Media Day Quotes

LOS ANGELES - Washington State University is picked to finish second in the 2007-08 Pacific-10 Conference race, according to a preseason poll of media members, the conference office announced Thursday at its annual media day.

Picked to finish 10th in 2006-07, the Cougars received 273 points and one first-place vote in the season's poll. Defending Pac-10 Champion UCLA is picked as the favorite to take home the title once again this season with 339 points and 33 of the 34 first-place votes.

"I hope the predictions are more accurate this season than last," WSU Head Coach Tony Bennett said, referencing last's seasons second place finish after being chosen last. "We acknowledge the fact that expectations are there, but we're not going to dwell on them. Our key will be dwelling on the process of doing things the right way practice-by-practice and game-by-game."

WSU's second-place pick is its highest placing since the media poll began in 1992-93. It's previous best was a fourth-place projection in 1995-96. Last season's tournament champion Oregon is picked to finish third with 240 points, followed closely by Arizona in fourth with 238 points. Stanford (205), USC (184), California (140), Washington (132), Arizona State (81) and Oregon State (38) round out the predictions.
