LAST YEAR: The WSU men's distance medley relay team of Eric Kamau, Guillermo Macias, Rasto Kiplangat and Bernard Lagat ran a school-record time of 9:34.03i and finished second at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships...two hours before the DMR race, Lagat placed fourth in the men's mile in a time of 4:02.21, just off his lifetime-best 4:02.18i...Kiplangat ran a 1:51.68i for sixth in the third heat of the men's 800m preliminaries and did not advance to the finals...Francesca Green, the lone Cougar woman at the indoor championships, placed ninth in the women's long jump...her leap of 19-8 1/4 was one-half inch away from eighth place...all five Cougars earned All-America honors at the meet.

ABOUT THE COUGAR COACHES: Head coach Rick Sloan is in his 25th season with the Cougar track program (fourth year as a head coach, third year as mentor to the combined men's and women's program)...he is joined by associate coach Lissa Olson, assistant coaches Dr. Li Li, Debra Lombardi, Mark Macdonald, and Rohan Walker...WSU's volunteer assistant coaches are Jason Wiens, Robyn Bryson and Dan O'Brien.

NATIONAL RANKINGS: The Mar. 4 Trackwire Top 25, a weekly predictor of national championship placement, finds the WSU men tied for 8th with Texas A&M, Clemson, and Texasthe USTCA Division I team Power Rankings show the WSU men ranked third and the women are 10th in the March 3 rankings.

OUTDOOR COMPETITION ON THE HORIZON: The WSU men's and women's track teams will move to outdoor competition on Saturday, Mar. 21, at the Tri-City Sports Festival at RichlandWSU's home meets will be April 11 (Washington, Idaho), May 2 (Kansas, Boise State), and May 9 (Idaho, Eastern Washington).
