Final Stats

PULLMAN, Wash. - Bradley Suttle drove in five runs and the Longhorns scored the first 11 runs en route to an 11-2 Texas win over Washington State Saturday afternoon in front of 5009 at Disch-Falk Field.

With the loss the Cougars fall to 2-3 on the season while the Longhorns take the first two games of the series to improve to 9-5.

Suttle put Texas ahead in the first with a two-run single to left then struck again in the second with a two-run double to right-center. In the fourth Suttle drove in another run with a single to center, extending the Texas lead to 7-0.

The Longhorns scored four in the first on just two hits, taking advantage of two hit batters and a pair of sacrifice bunts. In the second three more runs came across behind four hits. Texas closed out its scoring with two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings for an 11-0 lead.

WSU got on the board in the seventh with a pair of runs thanks to three straight hits but it was too little, too late. Jim Murphy led off with a single before Jeff Miller's double down the left field line drove home the Cougars first run. Simi Reynolds followed with a single to right, bringing home Miller with the second run of the inning. WSU had a chance for more by loading the bases in the inning but pushed across no more.

Following a stellar performance in his opener last weekend where he went five innings of no-hit ball at Cal State Northridge, Cougar starter Nick Ison lasted just four innings against the Longhorns, allowing nine runs on nine hits with two strikeouts as he suffered the loss.

Freshman Connor Lambert was the second of four Cougar pitchers on the afternoon, allowing two runs on two hits in two innings of work. Garrett Kimbrel and Seth Harvey each worked a scoreless inning of relief.

At the plate eight different players each collected one hit to account for the Cougar offense.

In addition to Suttle, Jordan Danks and Tucker each had a pair of hits, with Danks adding two RBIs and three runs scored.

These same two teams conclude their three-game series Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m., PST.
