PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State University men's basketball team held its free Cougar Basketball Kids' Clinic Saturday with a turnout of nearly 130 kindergarten through sixth graders at its practice gym on the campus of WSU.

The hour and 15 minute clinic began with an introduction by first-year head coach Ken Bone and featured four stations for the eight groups of approximately 15 kids. The groups worked on ball handling, passing, shooting and defense, all taught by current WSU men's basketball student-athletes.

"It was fun working with the kids and running through drills," redshirt sophomore forward Charlie Enquist said. "We worked a little bit on fundamentals and got to serve the community."

Following the lessons within the different stations, the team held a Q&A which featured questions from the clinic attendees to the student-athletes. The wide range of questions spanned from "How do you get the ball in the basket when it's so high up there?" to "Do any of you plan on playing in the NBA?"

"It was awesome, it was fun being around the kids," sophomore forward DeAngelo Casto said. "I love kids. It was also a lot of fun reaching out to the community."

The clinic ended with an autograph session in which the campers received the 2009-10 men's basketball poster and signatures from the team, along Halloween candy in honor of the holiday.

Freshman center Steven Bjornstad echoed what his teammates had to say. "It was great working with the kids and giving back to the community for all the support they give us."

The Cougars open up the season with an exhibition game Monday, Nov. 9 against Lewis-Clark State at 7 p.m. at Beasley Coliseum. The regular season begins Friday, Nov. 13 as the Cougars host Mississippi Valley State at 7 p.m., marking the second-straight season they've opened up with the Delta Devils.
