Final Stats

PULLMAN, Wash. - Jeffrey Inman fired a complete game and received offense support from Sean Ratliff's two home runs as Stanford opened a three-game Pacific-10 Conference series with a 6-4 win over Washington State Friday evening at Bailey-Brayton Field.

The game was televised by FSN Northwest, the first live broadcast of a Cougar baseball game at Bailey-Brayton Field since the 2002 season.

Inman held the Cougar (21-21, 4-12) bats in check all night, scattering five hits while surrendering just one earned run. It marked his first complete game of the season as he improved to 4-2.

With the Cardinal (19-24, 4-12) clinging to a one-run lead in the fifth, Ratliff drilled a two-out, three-run home run over the wall in right, giving Stanford a 5-1 lead. Ratliff struck again in the seventh as he hit his team-leading ninth home run of the year, a two-out, solo shot to right that extended the lead to 6-3.

Stanford opened the scoring in the second as Adam Sorgi led off with a double to right before coming home on Brian Juhl's RBI single. The Cougars answered in the bottom of the frame as Jeff Miller's two-out single to left drove in Zach Borba from second.

Michael Taylor gave the Cardinal a 2-1 lead as he led off the fourth with a home run to right-center, his eighth of the season. In the bottom of the fifth WSU cut the lead to two as Josh Ashenbrenner scored on an RBI off the bat of Paul Gran. On the play, Ratliff's throw from center got by third baseman Cord Phelps, allowing Travis Coulter to scored all the way from first.

The Cougars closed out the scoring in the seventh on Simi Reynolds infield RBI that brought home Coulter.

Wayne Daman Jr. started for WSU and suffered the loss as he worked into the seventh, allowing six runs on 11 hits. Offensively Coulter led the way with two hits and two runs scored.

Ratliff finished his night with three hits, four RBIs and a pair of runs scored, while Taylor, Sorgi and Phelps each added two hits.

These same two teams continue the series Sunday afternoon from Bailey-Brayton Field with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
