PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - Marcus Moore scored 10 of his game-high 28 points in the final three minutes to help Washington State beat Southern Utah 72-66 Monday night.
Back-to-back 3-pointers by Moore gave WSU the lead for good at 62-60 with 1:59 to go. Thomas Kelati followed Moore's baskets with a 3-pointer of his own to complete an 11-0 Washington State run that immediately followed a 12-0 Southern Utah run that pushed the Thunderbirds ahead 60-54 with 4:24 left.
Moore, a 6-foot-6 junior point guard, led Washington State (2-0) with 10 rebounds, six assists, three steals and four 3-pointers. Justin Lyman added 15 points for WSU. David Palmer led Southern Utah (0-2) with 18 points and eight rebounds.
Washington State jumped out to an 18-7 lead but trailed 33-29 at the half. Kelati, who missed all five of his field goal attempts in the first half, scored all 11 of his points in the final half.
Southern Utah outshot Washington State 44 percent to 37 percent from the field.
