Tucson, Ariz. - The Washington State women's golf team played two rounds in the first day of the MountainView Collegiate Invitational. The team started in a tie for tenth with Iowa State after the first round shooting a 306 (+18). But after the second round the Cougars moved into 15th carding a 310 (+22) at the par-72 6,126 yard MountainView Golf Club.

In both rounds the team was led by freshman Emma Betland who has continually found herself at the top of leaderboards. In round one Betland fired a 73 (+1) and was in a tie for ninth, at the end the day she finished in a tie for seventh after posting a 75 (+3) in round two, for a tournament total of 148 (+4). Betland is currently 2 strokes out of first place and is trying to make this her second top-10 finished and her fourth top-25 finish.

Fellow freshman Ali Thompson and Sophomore Kristen Allard, who also aren't strangers to the top of the leaderboard, are currently in a tie for 46th place. Thompson posted a 76 (+4) in the first round and a 78 (+6) in the second for a two round total of 154 (+10). Allard carded a 77 (+5) in both rounds for a tournament for a two-round total of 154 (+10). Both golfers are only 3 strokes away from joining Betland in the top 25.

Redshirt junior Allison Travis and Freshman Ellen Park are tied with a tournament total of 161 (+17). Travis fired an 80 (+8) in round one and an 81 (+9) in the second, while Park shot an 81 (+9) in the first and an 80 (+8) in the second round.

The Cougars finished day one with a tournament total of 617 (+40) and are currently in 15th. But the team is only four strokes away for jumping into the top ten. In a strong field with two ranked teams, the Cougars look to improve in day two and move up the leaderboard.

Play will continue tomorrow Mar. 26, with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m.
