UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- J Locklier, a center for the Washington State men's basketball team the past two seasons, makes his debut with the Boston Celtics Tuesday at Nassau Coliseum against the Knicks.

Locklier is one of four free agents in the Celtics' camp, and the team's only free agent center vying for a spot on the this year's team.

"It's a good opportunity for me," Locklier said. "I needed somewhere to get my foot in the door and there is no better place than the NBA and a great franchise such as the Celtics."

Locklier averaged 13.6 points and a team-leading 6.5 rebounds per game last season for the Cougars. In his final collegiate game, the Rock Hill, S.C., native recorded 40 points against Centenary. The point total was the fifth best single game performance in the 102-year history of Cougar basketball.

Locklier, who transferred to WSU from Miami, Ohio, was named the 2001 Pacific-10 Conference Newcomer of the Year after averaging 10.1 points and 4.3 rebounds.
