Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout - Championship Game
Final Score: WSU 93, USD 56
Washington State Notes:
Klay Thompson had a career-high 43 points...it's his second-30-plus point of his career and the season...tied with Guy Williams (Jan. 3, 1983 vs. Idaho State) for third best in school history...first 40-point scorer since Marcus Moore scored 42 against Gonzaga, Dec. 7, 2002.
Thompson's 43 points are a single-game Great Alaska Shootout record and the championship game record...the previous high was by Glenn Robinson of Purdue with 41 points against Portland in the championship game, Nov. 27, 1993.
With WSU's victory, five Pac-10 teams have won the Great Alaska Shootout...three since 2004 (California-2006, Washington-2004)...other Pac-10 winners: UCLA-1990, Arizona-1987.
No Pac-10 school has made the championship game and not won it.
Klay Thompson, Reggie Moore and DeAngelo Casto became the first Cougars to be named to the all-tournament team (only other time WSU played, 1981)
Klay Thompson was in double figures by the 11:25 mark in the first half...has reached double figures by halftime in all six games this season...scored in double figures in all 12 halves this season.
Thompson's 89 points in the Great Alaska Shootout ties him with Casey Green of Southwestern Louisiana for second most points scored in a single tournament.
This marks WSU's third tournament championship in four seasons (John Thompson Foundation Challenge in 2007, Cougar Hispanic College Fund Challenge in 2008).
WSU's 37-point victory marked the largest margin of victory in a Great Alaska Shootout Championship game...previous high was last year when San Diego State defeated Hampton, 76-47.
