TUCSON, Ariz. – Washington State University’s Ian Hamilton was named a 2014 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball, Wednesday.
A native of Vancouver, Wash., the right-handed pitcher flourished in the closer’s role for the Cougars. He saved a school-record 15 games to lead the Pac-12 Conference and tie for the national lead among freshmen with Bryan Garcia (Miami, Fla.).
Hamilton appeared in 28 games and posted a 2-2 record with a 2.70 ERA. He was an All-Pac-12 selection earlier this year. He is the first Cougar since outfielder Derek Jones (2009) to earn a spot on a freshman All-America team.
