PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State tennis team captured a first-place finish in the second doubles draw and a second-place finish in number one doubles in the final day of the WSU Invitational at the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
Maria Biryukova and Olga Musilovich swept the number two doubles draw, winning all five of their matches Saturday. In their final match, the Cougar duo faced off with Idaho’s Belen Barcenilla and Rita Bermudez, who had also won all four of their previous doubles matches. Biryukova and Musilovich soundly defeated the Idaho doubles team with a final score of 8-2, clinching first place in the second doubles draw.
Elizaveta Luzina and Liza Leenknecht won four of their five matches in the number one doubles draw. The duo’s only loss came in their third match to Alejandra Lozano and Almudena Sanz of Idaho. Luzina and Leenknecht took second place and Lozano and Sanz championed the first doubles draw.
All matches of the WSU Invitational were contested Saturday, leaving no matches to be played Sunday. The WSU Invitational was the final fall event for the Cougars.
