Cougar Men In Second Place At Northwest Collegiate Golf Classic

LEBANON, Ore. - Staking its claim to three spots in the top 10 individual places after the first day of competition, the Washington State men's golf team is in second place entering Tuesday's final round at the Northwest Collegiate Classic in Lebanon, Ore.

After Monday's action, the Cougars posted a two round total of 566, just one stroke behind the University of Oregon. Junior Dustin White (Pueblo West, Colo.) led WSU by firing rounds of 71-69 to post a two-under par total of 140, three stokes back of Oregon State's Sean Deacon (70-67-137) for first place in the individual title race.

Senior Jon Reehoorn (Burlington, Wash.) goes into Tuesday's final 18 holes tied for ninth after posting two consecutive rounds of even-par 71. Joining Reehoorn at even-par 142 is senior Jeremy Taylor (West Richland, Wash.) who followed up an opening round 73 with a 69 in the afternoon action. Sophomore Isaac Woods (Enumclaw, Wash.) is just one stroke back of Reehoorn and Taylor at one-over 142 (71-72) and is tied for 17th, five strokes behind Deacon.

While the men competed in the Pacific Northwest, the women traveled to the rarified air of Colorado for the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic at Fort Collins. After two rounds, the Cougars hold fifth place led by top-10 performances by Kim Welch and Tasha Browner.

Welch enters Tuesday's final round tied for fifth with a 36-hole total of even-par 144, five strokes behind the tournament leader, Mayumi Motoyama of Colorado State (five-under par, 139). Welch, a freshman from Sacramento, Calif., followed an opening round 74 with a two-under par round of 70 in the afternoon competition. Browner, a senior from Tarzana, Calif., is tied for eighth at two-over par 146 after posting rounds of 72-74.
