Sept. 10, 2010

On Tap This Week: The Washington State University men's golf team opens its 2010-11 season at the second-annual Palouse Cougar Collegiate, Sept. 13-14, in Pullman, Wash.

The tournament will be held at the Palouse Ridge Golf Course, with 36 holes played Monday and 18 holes played Tuesday. Both days will begin with a 7 a.m. shotgun start.

"I'm very excited to host a quality field with 15 Division I teams at Palouse Ridge on Monday and Tuesday," WSU Head Coach Walt Williams said. "I'm also excited to see how our team fares. We have three solid veterans in Nick Ellis, Hank Frame and Trent Sanders, but we also have two freshmen in Kent Hagen and Cody Robinson that are playing in their first collegiate events. We would love to see our fans come out and watch some great golf."

The Course: Palouse Ridge will play at 7,325 yards and a par 72 for both days of play.

The Field: Joining Washington State in the 15-school tournament will be San Jose State, Sacramento State, Santa Clara, Cal State Fullerton, Utah Valley, Cal Poly, Weber State, Loyola Marymount, Cal State Northridge, Boise State, Gonzaga, Seattle, Portland and Idaho.

Representing WSU: Competing for the Cougars will be senior Nick Ellis, junior Trent Sanders, sophomore Hank Frame, redshirt freshman Cody Robinson and freshman Kent Hagen. WSU will also play a second team, featuring junior Paul Mitzel, redshirt junior Robert Murray, redshirt junior Ryan Jones, redshirt junior Christopher Kneen and redshirt freshman Kyle Hurt.

Results: Tournament results will be posted at after each day of competition.

Last Season's Tournament: At the inaugural Palouse Collegiate in 2009, WSU finished first with a 9-over 873, and then-senior Kevin Tucker tied for the win with an 8-under 208.
