PULLMAN, Wash. --- After directing Washington State to top five finishes in 11 of 13 tournaments this season, Walt Williams was named Pac-10 Coach of the Year Monday.
"This is an unbelievable honor," Williams said. "I never really imagined when I came to Washington State that I would be the Pac-10 Coach of the Year, but the guys have played well all year and made me look good. This is quite an honor and I am extremely flattered."
The Cougars have made steady improvement over Williams' four seasons and should receive their first invitation to the NCAA West Regional when they are handed out next Monday.
The Pac-10 all-conference team was also announced Monday, with junior Dustin White earning first team honors, and senior Jon Reehoorn being named to the second team. White led the Cougars in scoring average this season, and has been as high as No. 12 in the Golfstat individual rankings.
"This is a tremendous honor for Dustin," Williams said. "He had a fantastic season and finished the year with the lowest scoring average in school history."
Reehoorn is putting the finishing touches on his career at WSU, where he helped the Cougars go from the bottom of the conference to the top 25 in the nation.
"This is also a big honor for Jon. He was close to being first team, and that says a lot in a deep conference like this. He has had an unbelievable career and holds every career record at this school. I'm excited for Jon and Dustin," Williams said.
The NCAA West Regional will be held in Albuquerque, N.M. May 16-18.
