LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The Washington State University men's golf team finished runner-up at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate Tuesday, finishing behind No. 17 UNLV. This is the third tournament of the season where the Cougars have finished second, two of which were behind teams ranked in the top 20.

"We played solid today and held on to second in a strong field," said WSU Men's Golf Coach Walt Williams. "Beating three Big-12 schools and a few other teams that were ranked ahead of us is a great way to finish off a very successful fall season."

Trent Sanders was in a tie for second and looking for his second win of the season after two rounds of play, but lost two strokes on the lead Tuesday and slipped into a tie for seventh with a three round total of 207 (-6). This was the sophomore's third top-10 finish of the season and the sixth of his career.

With a final round of 69 (-2), junior Nick Ellis was able to earn a share of seventh place with Sanders and finish in the top 10 for the first time this season. Ellis finished the event with 14 birdies, third-most in the tournament field.

After winning the Georgetown Collegiate week last week, Hank Frame continued his success and tallied another top 25 finish (3). The freshman finished with a tournament total of 212 (-1) which was good enough for a share of 21st place.

Senior Kevin Tucker was close behind with a two-day total of 213 (E). Tucker leads the team with five top-25 finishes to compliment his win at the opening event of the season. He also posted a team-leading scoring average of 71.67, during the fall.

This tournament wraps up the fall season for the Cougars. The men's team returns to action February 22nd when it hosts the Rebath Snowman Getaway in Chandler, Arizona.

"We look forward to a little time off, then we will try to build on this fall's success when we start back up in February," said Williams.
