LIHUE, Hawaii – Due to inclement weather, the final round of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate at the Wailhua Golf Course in Lihue, Hawaii was canceled, Friday, shortening the tournament to 36 holes. The Washington State University men’s golf team concluded play in seventh place, carding a 582 (+6) through two rounds.

The Cougars shot 3-over par (291) in each of the two opening rounds and finished two strokes back from a fifth-place tie between Arizona and UTEP (+4, 580). No. 2 California (-16, 560) won the competition for the fourth-straight year, while BYU’s Justin Keiley (-10, 134) garnered the top individual position.

“We are disappointed that we didn’t get the chance to play today and potentially improve our position,” Cougar Head Coach Garrett Clegg said. “The weather just did not allow for golf today. Junior Michael Anderson had another top 10 finish and that is fantastic for him. This tournament had a number of great players and for him to finish in the top 10 shows that he can compete with anyone in the country.”

Anderson led Washington State, shooting 3-under par (141) and tied for eighth place. Anderson’s performance marks his fifth top-10 finish in six tournaments this season. Senior Blake Snyder bested his opening round 73 (+1), carding a 72 (E) in Thursday’s round to finish the tournament tied for 23rd. Sophomore Bhurinat Songpaiboon shot 148 (+4) and tied for 39th. Redshirt juniors Sang Lee and Alex Wagner carded 151 (+7) and 152 (+8), respectively. Lee tied for 64th, and Wagner tied for 70th.

The 38th-annual edition of the tournament was shortened after thunderstorms hit the Hawaiian island of Kauai early Friday morning, leading to flash flood warnings.

The Cougars will have a two-day respite before traveling to Somis, Calif., to compete in the 2014 Jones Invitational, Feb. 24-25.
