Melissa Hubley Wins Gold at Canadian Games

LONDON, Ontario -- Washington State swimmer Melissa Hubley posted a time of 2:17:910 to earn the gold medal in the 200 meter butterfly, Tuesday evening at the Canadian Games.

A native of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Hubley recorded the fastest time in the preliminaries Tuesday morning with a mark of 2:19:380. A junior to be, Hubley was near a second and a half faster in the finals and beat the second place finisher by nearly a second.

Fellow Cougar Andree-Anne LeRoy competed in both the 100 meter backstroke and the 4 x 50 meter freestyle relay. The sophomore to be from Nanaimo, British Columbia, was third in the preliminaries of the 100 meter backstroke before finishing fifth in the finals with a time of 1:05:020.

In the relay event, LeRoy's British Columbia team was third after the preliminaries and finished fourth in the finals, missing the bronze medal by just over a half a second.
