THIS WEEK: The Washington State University women's swim team opens the 2004-05 Pacific-10 season by hosting the University of Washington Friday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. at Gibb Pool... WSU is currently 2-0 with victories against San Jose State and Arkansas...WSU also has a second place finish at the Pacific Invite... Washington is currently 0-1 after losing to California...the Huskies are coming off a second place finish at the Big West Shootout Championship...Washington also placed second at the SMU Women's Swimming and Diving Classic.

COACH QUAM: Erica Quam is in her third season as the WSU head women's swimming coach.

LAST TIME OUT: WSU defeated the University of Arkansas 119-86...Erin McCleave won the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Her time of 58.08 in the 100 backstroke placed her eighth on the Cougar all-time top ten list...Cougar swimmers Kayli Changstrom, McKenzie Reiter and Maegan Wood finished one-two-three in the 400 individual medley en route to Changstrom setting a Gibb Pool record with a time of 4:29.77 in the event...Jane Copland, Reiter and Changstrom finished one-two-three in the 100 breaststroke...the Cougar 200 relay team of McCleave, Monika Povilonyte, Bryn Mooney and Katie Van Horne also finished first.

LAST SEASON: Five swimmers placed on the Cougar all-time top 10 list at the Pacific-10 Championships...top finishers included Lindsay Backhouse in the 100 and 200 backstroke, Jane Copland and Monika Povilonyte in the breaststroke events...Erin McCleave recorded a school record in the 200 freestyle.

ACADEMICS: WSU finished first in the nation academically spring semester 2004 with a 3.66 grade point average...Cougars finished fourth in the fall of 2003 with a GPA of 3.489.

UP NEXT: The Cougars will then travel to the Princeton Invitational in Princeton N.J., and the Jingle Bell Invite in Moscow, Idaho, Dec. 3-5.
