FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - WSU swimmers Monika Povilonyte and Kenzie Reiter were the first Cougars in the water Wednesday at the 2006 U.S. National Spring Championships held at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.

Povilonyte finished 18th with a time of 2:38.38, just missing the cut to advance to the final. The top 16 preliminary finishers move on to the final day. Reiter also completed the race with a time of 2:57.80, placing 59th overall.

Competition continues Thursday, March 30, and will feature WSU's Reiter and Kayli Changstrom in the 400m individual medley, as well as Erin McCleave in the 200m freestyle. McCleave posted a school record (1:48.09) at the 2006 NCAA championships in the 200m freestyle.

Thursday's schedule will also feature the 800m freestyle relay, in which the Cougar's do not have an entry. For event schedules and live results, visit www.usaswimming.org.
