STOCKTON, Calif. - The Washington State University swim team finished second at the TYR Pacific Invitational after concluding the second day of competition, Saturday.

Rugile Mileisyte led the Cougars, winning four individual events and was also a member of the first-place 200 freestyle relay team. The senior won the 200 freestyle and 50 freestyle, Friday, and topped the field in the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle, Saturday.

Sophomore Shelbi Luchini showed versatility and endurance by placing in the top five of three events during the second day of action. Luchini finished second in the 200 backstroke, fourth in the 100 backstroke and fifth in the 200 individual medley.

Talor Whitaker earned two top-five finishes, adding to her third-place finish in the 400 individual medley Friday. In the second day of competition, the Chesterton, Ind., native took third in the 200 butterfly which was good enough to replace 10th best time on the WSU all-time list (2:06.11). Whitaker also finished fifth in the 200 breaststroke.

Sophomores Evelina Bieleckaite and Jenna Bekker provided some depth for the WSU 100 freestyle lineup behind Mileisyte. The pair finished third and fourth, respectively. Classmate Kelsey Bruggman was the top Cougar finisher in the 100 butterfly by touching the wall in third.

Freshman Taylor Indahl and junior Danielle Palumbo contributed by racking up points in each of their key events. Indahl finished third in the 200 breaststroke while Palumbo took fourth in the 200 backstroke.

The Cougars will return to Pullman for their next event, the Debbie Pipher Invitational. The two-day competition will begin Friday, Oct. 22 at 5 p.m. in Gibb Pool.
