PULLMAN, Wash. -- The Washington State University women's swim team finished third in the nation with a 3.54 GPA for fall 2004 according to the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.

WSU has finished in the top four in GPA all five semesters under head coach Erica Quam.

In addition to WSU's team honor, all 14 of the Cougars' eligible swimmers earned individual accolades. Lindsay Backhouse, Karen Eldred, Lisa Irwin, Andrea Lubeck and Katie Van Horne were all selected to the Pac-10 All-Academic First Team, while Kayli Changstrom and Erin McCleave placed on the Pac-10 All-Academic Second Team. Pac-10 All-Academic Honorable Mention selections included Emily Chandler, Jane Copland, Laurie Gregg, Sheena Mills, Elizabeth Newhouse, Monika Povilonyte and Candace Rodda.

Eastern Michigan University led the nation in the fall with a 3.56 GPA followed by Xavier University with a 3.55 GPA. Washington State University led the nation in GPA for spring 2004 with a 3.66 GPA.
