PULLMAN, Wash. - The Cougar and Husky women's swimming programs dual it out for its own annual Apple Cup meeting in the pool November 19 and 20.

The King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way is the site of first day competition between the two rivals. However, WSU will combine with the men's swimming team from Brigham Young University and Washington with its own men's team, making it a co-ed dual meet. Naturally, nicknames will stay intact with the Cougars (BYU and WSU) against the Huskies.

"We are breaking from tradition and not swimming head-to-head on the first day," WSU coach Rocco Aceto said. "It (swimming with the men) will give us more rest between events."

The storied interstate rivalry always makes for good preparation against any Husky. The Cougars have been training hard and training smart, Aceto said.

The Cougars and Huskies meet the following morning at Husky Pool, prior to the Apple Cup football game. The swimmers train in Smith Pool this week to emulate Husky Pool, which was built back in the 30's.

WSU is 0-20-1 versus UW. The closest the Cougars came away with a victory was in 1991 when both schools tied with 102.5 points in Seattle.

"This will be the first year Husky domination begins to unfold," Aceto said. "The buck stops here and we are stopping the strangle Earl Ellis (former Washington coach) started two decades ago. It (losing streak) has to stop sometime without sacraficing our goals at the end."
