CORVALLIS, Ore. - Jessica Velazquez tallied a second half goal to provide host Oregon State a 3-2 win over No. 21 Washington State in Pacific-10 women's soccer, Sunday.
Velazquez scored at 66:42 to snap a 2-2 tie as the Beavers (6-7-2, 1-3-1 Pac-10) broke a 21-match conference winless streak.
"We did not perform in the manner in which we are capable of and it cost us," WSU Head Coach Matt Potter said. "It was a very disappointing performance given where we are in our season. Give credit to Oregon State for continuing to play hard and for coming after us."
The Beavers got on the board first on a header from Red Nixon at 4:29. Just 18 seconds later, freshman Ali Fenter tied the match for the Cougars (8-5-4, 2-3-1 Pac-10) on a goal from six yards out.
In the seventh minute, junior Carly Dobratz notched her third goal of the weekend on a header in the box. Sophomore Caitlin Bonney's cross earned her an assist, the first-collegiate point of her career.
Oregon State tied the match 2-2 on Melissa Peck's header at 38:15. The first half was even with the Beavers outshooting the Cougars 7-5 and both teams earning a pair of corner kicks.
In the second half, the Beavers took all the three corner kicks and five of the six shots after intermission.
