LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Washington State women's soccer took their second conference loss of the season as No. 3 UCLA (16-2-0, 7-0-0) defeated the Cougars 2-0 at Marshall Field Sunday. With the loss, WSU moves to 8-6-3 overall and 3-2-2 in conference play.
The Bruins scored their first goal of the game in the 24th minute of play as senior forward Bristyn Davis hit a sharp-angled shot from the right side. UCLA continued to attack the net all throughout the first half, tallying 13 shots to WSU's four. The second goal of the match came on a Lauren Cheney penalty kick in the 62nd minute.
Cougar goalkeeper Brynn Bemis turned in nine saves for the Cougars, tying her career high. The two goals scored against the Cougars Sunday marks only the second and third time WSU has been scored on in conference play.
The Cougars close out their 2006 season as they play host to Arizona State and Arizona. The Sun Devils visit the Lower Soccer Field Friday, Nov. 3 for a 2:00 p.m. match while the Wildcats come to Pullman Sunday, Nov. 5 for an 11:00 a.m. match.
