The Washington State soccer team will kick off its spring season March 6 at Whitman College head coach Matt Potter announced Thursday. Five dates have been scheduled for the 2004 spring season including two at Pullman.

"Our thoughts for the spring are to try and stay close to home and play teams from the Northwest," Potter said. "We have some clear, simple goals that will help us to improve and build on last season. With the graduation of eight seniors that all left a positive mark on the program, the spring will be an opportunity for players to stake a claim for a starting spot next fall."

The Cougs will begin their spring season against Montana, a team they beat 4-0 in their 2003 fall season, at 11 a.m., March 6. WSU will then play Boise State on the same day at 7 p.m.

Washington State will travel to Seattle Pacific University April 3, to play SPU at 9 a.m. and then Oregon State at noon.

The Cougars begin their home matches Mom's Weekend, hosting a four-team festival of soccer featuring Idaho, Gonzaga and Eastern Washington. Games will start the morning of April 17 and continue throughout the day.

The weekend of April 24-25, will mark the Sixth Annual 7-A-Side tournament and will wrap up the Cougs spring action.

"The weekend promises to be a great occasion with college and top club teams already committed to the event," Potter said.

Last year both WSU teams met in the final game of the tournament with Team Gray coming out victorious against Team Crimson.

Times for the April 17, contests and the 7-A-Side Tournament have yet to be confirmed.
