PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University dominated play in both halves of the field against North Idaho College as the Cougars ran away with an 8-0 victory Saturday on the Cougar Soccer Field.
Laura Grunenfelder (Port Orchard, Wash.) opened the scoring in the fifth minute and added another in the 21st minute to give WSU a 2-0 lead. Camilla Ray (Cambridge, England) also added two goals for WSU and Niki Ironside (Kent, Wash.), Adrienne Rizzo (San Jose, Calif.), Christina Pallan (Las Vegas, Nev.)and Deka DeWitt (Auburn, Wash.) scored one goal each.
"It was a good scrimmage for us against somebody other than ourselves," said WSU coach Dan Tobias. "We did some things well that we worked on this week in practice."
The Cougs took 34 shots with 22 of them on goal. DeWitt, who also had four assists, led the charge with 10 shots.
The regular season opener for WSU is September 4 against Boise State in the Governor's Cup, played at the University of Idaho.
