NCAA SECOND ROUND AT VIRGINIA
The clock runs out and Virginia wins 3-0. The ACC was rated the No. 1 conference in NCAA RPI this season and sent nine teams to this year's championship. All nine schools advanced last weekend and Virginia makes it 5-for-5 in the second round so far.
Washington State finishes its season 12-7-4.
In the 89th minute, the Cougars earn a corner kick and Ali Fenter's subsequent header is the first shot in the match for Washington State.
In the 80th minute, Brandi Vega tries to run onto a ball in the box, but Chantel Jones comes out of the net to control the ball before Vega can get a shot.
A brilliant save by Gurveen Clair denies Lauren Alwine's rocket to the far left post in the 68th minute.
Erica Hollenberg's header in the box is high in the 65th minute. Virginia now holds an 18-0 advantage in shots.
A nasty collision in the 62nd minute knocks Rachael Doyle to the ground in the Cougars' box. After receiving some medical attention, the Australian walks off under her own power and remains in the match.
In the 61st minute, Gurveen Clair notches her sixth save of the match.
At 57:56, Caroline Miller converts in the box from 10 yards out after a cross by Molly Menchel from the left. Virginia now leads 3-0.
In the 55th minute, Julia Roberts blasts a shot from 25 yards out that Gurveen Clair tips over the bar. A header by Roberts on the ensuing corner kick is also saved by Clair.
With five saves tonight, Clair has 95 this season and has passed Shannon Wilson (94 in 1997) for eight place on the Cougar single-season list.
Virginia earns a corner kick on the left side in the 54th minute. The Cougars do a nice job to defend and clear the ball.
Gurveen Clair is forced to make two saves in the opening minute of the second half.
At the start of the second half, Gurveen Clair remains in net for the Cougars. Delaney Zalud, Ali Fenter, Rachael Doyle and Mariah Cameron are on the backline. Beau Bremer has moved to midield and is joined by Nicole Setterlund and Jacquelyn Roth. Up top are Brandi Vega, Jocelyn Jeffers and Micaela Castain.
Halftime in Charlottesville. Virginia leads 2-0. The Cavaliers have taken all eight shots in the match. Washington State's Gurveen Clair has the only save tonight.
In the 43rd minute, a Virginia cross from the left is headed away by Beau Bremer in the box, but it results in a Cavaliers' corner kick. Virginia is unable to capitalize.
Virginia earns a corner kick in the 36th minute and it is defended well by the Cougars.
At 30:23, Gloria Dougla pokes up a ball on the doorstep for Virginia. Lauren Alwine started the sequence with a cross from the right. Danielle Colaprico kept the play alive in the box with a header. The Cavaliers lead 2-0.
Morgan Brian shoots wide left from 20 yards in the 29th minute.
In the 28th minute, Jacquelyn Roth slips defending a cross from the left in the box. Erica Hollenberg is there for a shot, but it is high. Gloria Douglas for Virginia is the first substitute of the night, replacing Hollenberg.
The Cougar defense fails to clear in the 25th minute and Morgan Brian fires wide right from 20 yards out.
At the end of the 23rd minute, a cross from the left results in a header wide of the near post by Virginia's Caroline Miller.
In the 17th minute, a dangerous cross from the left by Virginia is punched out of the box by Gurveen Clair.
At 16:09, Virginia scores off a free kick. Lauren Alwine heads the ball home in the box on assists from Morgan Brian and Julia Roberts.
Morgan Brian has a chance in the box, but the shot is blocked by the Cougars in the 16th minute.
A nice play by Beau Bremer denies a cross to the far right post in the 14th minute.
In the eighth minute, a misplay by Virginia's backline gives the Cougars a corner kick from the right. Delaney Zalud's cross is intercepted by the Cavaliers.
The Cavaliers defend it well and the Cougars do not get a shot.
Tail end of the fifth minute, a shot by Lauren Alwine of Virginia in the box is tipped by Cougars' goalkeeper Gurveen Clair. The ball hits the crossbar before Clair controls.
Nearly two minutes in, a Virginia cross from the right deflects off a Cougar defender in the box for a Cavaliers' corner kick.
The ball gets loose in the box, but Virginia is unable to get a shot off and Brandi Vega dribbles up field for the Cougars.

It is about 10 minutes prior to the start of tonight's NCAA Division I Women's Soccer match in Charlottesville, Va., between visiting Washington State and eighth-ranked/second-seeded Virginia.
