PULLMAN, Wash. --- Washington State senior Lindsey Jorgensen, who completed her final season with the Cougar soccer team in November, has been named a regional finalist for the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Program.

"We are so proud of Lindsey's nomination for this prestigious award and we believe it simply validates what we have come to expect from her over the last four years. She is one of the finest student-athletes ever to attend Washington State University," Cougar head soccer coach Dan Tobias said.

The NCAA awards up to 174 scholarships of $5,000 each year to student-athletes who have excelled academically and athletically. Jorgensen has done both.

The four-year starter in goal carried a perfect grade point average in mathematics through most of her career at WSU and is the school's all-time leader in minutes in goal, saves, and shutouts. Jorgensen was twice named second team All-Pac-10.

The awards are given to student-athletes who have "performed with distinction" as a member of their varsity team. That is weighed along with academic performance, university involvement, and volunteer community service.

The last Washington State student-athlete to be awarded the scholarship was Jason Hanson in 1991.
