Sophomore Molly Alexander reports from Veracruz, Mexico where she and the rest of the Canadian Under-20 Women's National Team defend their Confederation of North and Central American and Caribbean Football (CONCACAF) title at the 2006 Qualifying Tournament Jan. 18-27.

Jan. 17, 2006

The past few days have been pretty eventful. When I arrived in Veracruz, there was no one at the airport to pick me up and they had lost my bags. (I got them back by the way) After a $15 dollar cab ride, I arrived at the FIESTA INN PLAYA. It's a beautiful resort on the ocean, equipped with everything we could possibly need here.

We have trained twice a day for the past two days. Our first training session consisted of some passing and moving, crossing and finishing and some "travel recovery work." When we showed up for a our second training session, the entire Trinidad and Tobago team was playing a game and took their sweet time getting off the field, even if it meant walking through our drills to do it.

The next day we moved to a different stadium. So far the fields here have been terrible. We are definitely spoiled at Washington State. Both training session that day consisted of small intense games, finishing work, and our own time to focus on technical work. At the end of every practice we work on set plays and tactical structure. You wouldn't believe how long they make us cool down and stretch for.

We woke up this morning to hurricane winds and were forced to stay indoors, as it would have been very dangerous to go and train outside. The waves are incredible huge, the pool has lost a foot of water, tiles are falling off the roof and sand is all over the hotel but supposedly it should be much better tomorrow. :)

They have given us some time to ourselves to go shopping, do homework and watch movies. We even got some time on the beach to play in the waves.

Hope all is well back in Pullman. I promise that the next one will be shorter, but I had to compact three days into one email!!! MISS YOU GUYS.

p.s dinner time: food is pretty great.
