SEATTLE – Washington State University soccer standout Micaela Castain and legendary baseball head coach Bobo Brayton will be honored at the 79th Annual MTR Western Sports Start of the Year event.
Castain is among the nominees for the Female Sports Star of the Year after leading the Cougars to their fifth NCAA postseason appearances in the last-six year. The Castro Valley, Calif., native was named the Pac-12 Conference Player of the Year as the Cougars finished runner-up to national champion UCLA in the conference standings.
Recent nominees from Washington State include current NBA player Klay Thompson and track & field’s Jeshua Anderson. Bob Robertson is a past winner of the Keith Jackson Award at the event run by the Seattle Sports Commission.
Brayton is this year’s recipient of the Royal Brougham Legend Award. In 33-years at the helm of Washington State’s baseball program, Brayton won 1,162 games and skippered the Cougars to a pair of NCAA Men’s College World Series appearances.
