Washington State soccer begins its 2013 campaign, Friday, Aug. 23 at Seattle…match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. on Championship Field…Cougar roster consists of 15 returnees, including 13 letterwinners, and 11 newcomers, including three transfers…live stats will be available at www.goseattleu.edu.

WASHINGTON STATE HEAD COACH KEIDANE McALPINE

Cougar Head Coach Keidane McAlpine is in his second year at Washington State, and his seventh year overall as a head coach...McAlpine is 12-6-2 in Pullman and 52-54-13 overall…led Cougars to NCAA First Round in 2012.

COUGAR OPENERS

Washington State is 19-4-1 all-time in season openers, including 6-0-1 when playing its first match on the road…Cougars are 9-3-0 when playing their first match in Washington.

SERIES AGAINST SEATTLE

Washington State is 9-0-0 all-time against the Redhawks…Cougars have won three meetings in Seattle…Washington State has outscored Seattle 20-4, including 8-2 in Seattle…teams last met in 2011 with Brandi Vega’s goal in the 17th minute providing a 1-0 victory…current Cougar goalkeeper Gurveen Clair earned the shutout.

ABOUT THE REDHAWKS

Seattle was 9-9-2 in 2012, including 6-3-0 at home…Redhawks were picked as the favorite to the win the 2013 Western Athletic Conference title by the league’s coaches.

COUGARS SEEK RETURN TO POSTSEASON

Washington State has made four trips to the NCAA postseason in the last-five years…Cougars have advanced to the second round twice in that span…last year, Washington State was eliminated by Portland, a No. 4 seed in the tournament, on penalty kicks and finished 12-6-2.

PRESEASON ACCOLADES

Senior defender Rachael Doyle (first team) and senior forward Micaela Castain (second team) received Pac-12 preseason all-conference honors from College Sports Madness.

IN THE RECORD BOOKS

Senior forward Micaela Castain and redshirt-junior goalkeeper Gurveen Clair enter the 2013 season ranked in several-career categories on Washington State’s all-time list…Castain is second in game-winning goals (10), fourth in goals per game (0.42), fifth in goals (22), sixth in points per game (0.89) and eighth in points (47)…Clair is the school’s all-time leader in goals against average (0.83), ranks fourth in victories (20), is tied for fourth in shutouts (11) and sixth in saves (143).

WELCOME TO PULLMAN

Washington State has 11 newcomers on the 2013 roster, seven-true freshmen, two transfers from Oregon, one junior college transfer and a junior walk-on…sophomore defender Mariah Powers was an All-Pac-12 Freshman Team member last year…freshman trio members forward Kailiana Johnson, midfielder Nicolle Marlow and defender Ayana O’Neal are from Renton, Wash…Johnson and Marlow were teammates at Liberty High School…O’Neal’s parents Robert (football) and Kathy (track & field) were student-athletes at Washington State.

COUGARS ON TELEVISION

Washington State is scheduled to make eight appearances on the Pac-12 Networks this season…Cougars play UNLV (Sept. 13), Utah (Oct. 13) and Stanford (Nov. 3) at home…Washington State takes on Oregon (Sept. 26), UCLA (Oct. 4), USC (Oct. 6), Arizona (Oct. 25) and Washington (Nov. 8) in road matches.
