PULLMAN, Wash. - With the start of the 2008 Cougar football season less than two weeks away, Washington State University officials are reminding fans, friends and alumni returning to Pullman to be aware of the many changes they will see in and around Martin Stadium.
The majority of the Phase I and II Martin Stadium renovation will be complete, most notably in the east end zone when new restrooms have been added, along with concessions, first aid, ADA accessible seating, new entry gates and convenient access to the North concourse and ticket office.
With the renovation comes new gate designations into the stadium. An updated stadium map showing all new gate designations, ticket office, concessions, restrooms, first aid rooms, and seating areas can be accessed in the facilities section of www.wsucougars.com.
Concerning Washington State University's policy on consumption or possession of alcohol in public areas throughout the University, WSU Director of Athletics Jim Sterk clarified the position as it relates to Cougar football gamedays.
"With the completion of the CUB (Compton Union Building) renovation and the opening of the Palouse Ridge Golf Course, the University has allowed the sale of beer, wine and distilled spirits at two restaurants operated by independent vendors in these locations," Sterk said. "Various media reports have indicated those sales also will take place in Hollingbery Fieldhouse prior to home football games. That is not the case. We are maintaining our practice in the fieldhouse and corporate tent area of making only beer and wine available to those 21 and older with valid ID."
The WSU Ticket Office has moved from the Visitor Center downtown to its new location in the northeast corner of Martin Stadium. Ticket sales, general will call, and player-guest will call will be located there on gameday. Recruit and high school coach will call will be located at Gate F (formerly Gate G) and student ticket gameday sales will still take place at the student gate at the northwest corner of the stadium.
Fans arriving at Martin Stadium this season will notice a new scoreboard/video board in the west end zone. The video display will measure approximately 53 feet wide by 25 feet high, over double the size of the previous video board. The scoreboard in the west end zone as well as the auxiliary board in the southeast corner have also been replaced. A new sound system was also included in the scoreboard replacement as well as new play clocks.
Following a two-year remodel, the Compton Union Building (CUB) has reopened and offers a variety of dining options before and after games, along with being the new home to the Bookie. Go to www.cub.wsu.edu for more information related to the renovated CUB.
The Stadium Way traffic revision that was implemented last season will be in affect again this football season. Stadium Way will close two hours prior to kick-off between Colorado Street/Orchard Drive and Grimes Way. Stadium Way will open approximately one hour after the game ends. A comprehensive website has been developed that provides maps, routes, transit information, and parking information at www.wsu.edu/parking/gameday.
A new general RV lot has been added for the upcoming year. The Spring Street Lot will be available for general RV use beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday's of game week. A gameday shuttle will be provided by the athletic department to take patrons to Martin Stadium and Hollingbery Fieldhouse beginning three hours prior to kickoff.
