PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington State University head football coach Bill Doba has signed a contract extension that keeps him at the helm of Cougar football through the 2009 season, Cougar Director of Athletics Jim Sterk announced Monday.

"I am extremely grateful to Jim Sterk and the administration for having the confidence in me to extend the contract into 2010," Doba commented. "I am looking forward with optimism to the future of Cougar football."

Doba, who joined the Cougar football staff in 1989 and served as an assistant for 14 years, has guided WSU to a 15-9 record as head coach since 2003, including a 10-3 campaign in 2003 when the Cougars defeated Texas in the Holiday Bowl. Doba was WSU's defensive coordinator from 1994 until being named head coach.

"Bill was an integral part of the development and elevation of Cougar football during his 14 years as linebackers coach and defensive coordinator and since 2003 has excelled in his role as the head coach of the Cougars," offered Sterk on the WSU head coach. "He has also put together a great staff which will continue to lead WSU in the future."

During his Cougar career Doba has been a key force in six bowl games, including two Rose Bowl appearances. Doba has a 4-2 bowl game record with WSU and is 5-3 in eight bowl game appearances. WSU has been ranked in the Associated Press Top 10 four times during Doba's Cougar career, the most recent at the end of the 2003 season when WSU was ranked ninth.
