PULLMAN, Wash. --- Washington State's 28-20 Holiday Bowl win over Texas helped five Cougar players land on the ESPN and Collegefootballnews.com All-Bowl Teams.
ESPN recognized defensive end D.D. Acholonu, who recorded three sacks and forced a fumble, and punter Kyle Basler, who was awarded defensive player of the game honors after pinning Texas inside the five yard line four times.
Collegefootballnews.com ranked the top 20 individual performances during the bowl season. Linebacker Will Derting was the highest-rated Cougar, ranking No. 10, while Erik Coleman checked in at No. 15. Both players earned first team honors.
"Derting dominated the Holiday Bowl, blitzing from every conceivable angle and totally disrupting the Texas offense," wrote CFN's Richard Cirminiello. "The Cougs' biggest hitter out of the secondary (Coleman) seemed to be everywhere."
Joining Derting and Coleman on the first team were Acholonu and Basler.
Running back Jonathan Smith earned honorable mention from CFN after racking up 161 total yards against the Longhorns.
