PULLMAN, Wash. - Over 1,600 fans gathered as Mike Leach was introduced as the Washington State University head football coach Tuesday at a public press conference held in the Compton Union Building (CUB) Senior Ballroom on the campus of WSU. A capacity group of 1,300 people crowded into the ball room for the event, which featured statements from WSU Director of Athletics Bill Moos and Leach. A group of 300-400 people watched the press conference live in the lower level of the CUB after the CUB Senior Ballroom reached capacity.
"I'm excited to be here," Leach said. "I'm excited to be here and excited to stay here. We are off to a great start, but none of that happens without the partnership of the fans and the people in the stands. It can't just be done by the players and the coaches. It's where the fans and the entire university share in the whole experience when it's the most rewarding and things really take off and start reaching different levels."
Leach, who arrived in Pullman Tuesday morning, spent his hours before the press conference meeting with various members of the WSU Athletic Department, including Moos. The press conference featured the Cougar Spirit Squad and Crimson Girls, the band and Coug Guys & Gals "Waving the Flag."
