PULLMAN, Wash. --- Quarterback Matt Kegel completed 14 of 21 passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns in Washington State's final fall camp scrimmage Saturday night at Martin Stadium.

"We didn't execute as well as we could of on offense, but these guys are sick and tired of hitting each other," Head Coach Bill Doba said. "We need to play a real ball game."

Kegel's second touchdown pass of the evening came on a 30-yard strike to emerging tight end Cody Boyd. The 6-8, 240-pound freshman used his frame to outmaneuver a smaller defender in the air and haul in the pass in the endzone for six points.

Chris Jordan was Kegel's most frequent target, as the freshman wide receiver caught five passes for 89 yards. Junior Trandon Harvey added two catches for 15 yards and a touchdown, while Devard Darling caught three balls for 31 yards.

The ground game was paced by the one-two punch of senior Jonathan Smith and Bruhn. The duo combined for 18 carries and 126 yards. Bruhn recorded WSU's only rushing touchdown on a scamper from 12 yards out.

Defensively, Washington State's first unit allowed just four first downs during the scrimmage. Senior defensive end D.D. Acholonu sacked scout quarterback Alex Brink in the endzone for a safety. Fellow ends Adam Braidwood and Mkristo Bruce also recorded sacks.

The defensive play of the night belonged to sophomore cornerback Alex Teems, who showed tremendous leaping ability to intercept a pass that appeared to be sailing too far overhead to make an attempt at.

Playing for the scout team, 6-2, 196-pound freshman defensive end Reyshawn Bobo continued to frustrate the first-unit offense, recording two sacks.

Washington State opens the 2003 campaign Saturday, August 30 in Seattle's Seahawk Stadium against Idaho.
