PULLMAN, Wash. --- Linebacker Will Derting earned the Pac-10's defensive Player of the Week award after racking up 12 tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble in Washington State's 29-26 loss at Notre Dame.

Derting recorded nine solo tackles and helped the Cougar defense get to Fighting Irish quarterback Carlyle Holiday six times for a loss of 32 yards. The Okanogan, Wash., native also received Pac-10 Player of the Week honors in 2002 after intercepting three passes, including one he returned 98 yards for a touchdown, against Nevada.

Derting is the second Cougar to receive weekly honors this season, as kicker Drew Dunning earned the special teams award after knocking in four field goals against Idaho.

WSU's next contest will be Saturday, September 13 against Colorado in Boulder.
