NEW ORLEANS – Washington State quarterback Connor Halliday has been named to the 2014 Manning Award Watch List, announced by the Allstate Sugar Bowl Thursday. The national honor recognizes the top quarterback in country after bowl games. Halliday is one of seven Pac-12 quarterbacks included on the list of 32.

The Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, will publish its complete preseason Watch List on Thursday. The list includes 32 of the top quarterbacks in the nation heading into the 2014 season. The winner will again be selected by a voting panel, which includes national media and each of the Mannings, after the bowls.

The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates’ bowl performances in its balloting.

Halliday started all 13 games for the Cougars last season, setting a school-record with 4,597 passing yards, second-most in Pac-12 Conference history. The Spokane, Wash. native also set school records for pass completions (449), pass attempts (714) and tied the school record with 34 touchdown passes. Halliday tallied nine 300-yard performances including four 400-yard games and capped his season leading Washington State to the New Mexico Bowl where he tied an NCAA Bowl Game record with six touchdown passes.
