The Cougars worked through their similar routine of individual position workouts, 7-vs.-7, punt coverage and team.
In 7-vs.-7, redshirt-senior quarterback Connor Halliday made one of best throws of the day, dropping a pass just over am outs-stretched covering linebacker and into streaking redshirt-freshman running back Jamal Morrow’s hands for a long touchdown. Later on, Halliday hit redshirt-senior wide receiver Vince Mayle in stride and Mayle sped up the right sideline, outracing two defenders for a score. On the opposite field, redshirt-freshman quarterback Luke Falk connected with wideout Daniel Lilienthal for a couple long scores.
In the team session, the defense made the first big play as junior safety Taylor Taliulu out-jumped a wide receiver and came down with an interception. Halliday later hit sophomore wideout River Cracraft in stride for a long gain before closing the drive with a touchdown toss to redshirt-senior wide receiver Kristoff Williamson who made the catch short of the goaline but stretched out for the score.
Redshirt-freshman quarterback Tyler Bruggman led the next series and quickly put the offense on the board, firing an 80-yard touchdown pass to Mayle on the second play of the series. Later in the series, junior BUCK linebacker Kache Palacio blew up a running play, blasting through the line and popping Morrow five yards behind the line of scrimmage. The offense came right back with a touchdown as Bruggman hit Lilienthal in traffic for a 10-yard score and later ended the day with a short touchdown pass to Mayle in the end zone.
The Cougars continue spring practice Thursday at 3 p.m.
