PULLMAN, Wash. -- A game against 2004 Final Four participant Oklahoma State and an always rugged Pacific-10 slate highlight the Washington State 2004-05 men's basketball schedule as announced by Cougar Head Coach Dick Bennett, Friday. The game against the Cowboys (Dec. 4) in Stillwater, Okla., is one of three the Cougars will play against 2004 NCAA Tournament teams in the nonconference portion of the season. WSU hosts Gonzaga (Dec. 7) and meets BYU (Dec. 11) at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City. "This is the first step in revitalizing our nonconference schedule," Bennett said. "I hope we're up to the challenge at this stage of our program." The Cougars will open their season hosting Montana State (Nov. 19), the eve of Apple Cup, as part of a basketball doubleheader. Boise State will be in town to play the WSU women. The remainder of the nonconference schedule includes a home encounter with Georgia Southern (Nov. 24) and road games against Kansas State (Nov. 27), Idaho (Nov. 30), Portland (Dec. 18) and Wyoming (Dec. 22). "Unfortunately, in the position we are in, we must pay our dues on the road first," Bennett said. "The up side is all but one of the schools we are playing on the road in nonconference will come back to us the following season." Washington State tips off its Pacific-10 season with a New Year's Eve game at the Spokane Arena against defending conference champion Stanford. The Cougars will also host California at the Spokane Arena (Jan. 2). The Cougars' first Pac-10 games in Pullman will come January 13 and 15 when they host Oregon State and Oregon, respectively. The Pac-10 Tournament takes place March 10-12 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
