STANFORD, Calif. - Washington State senior two-time All-American Kim Welch captured her 11th career tournament victory and her second consecutive individual title at the Peg Barnard California Collegiate, Sunday.

Welch shot 140 (-2) over two rounds at the par-71, 6,030-yard Stanford Golf Course, winning the tournament by three strokes over the University of Washington's Paige Mackenzie. Welch captured last year's tournament by one stroke with a two-round score of 142 (-2).

In the opening round Welch fired a 5-under 66, setting both the school record for lowest single round score and the course record at the Stanford Golf Course. Welch was the only player under par in the 80-player field.

The Cougars (No. 24) finished second as a team, recording consecutive rounds of 295 for a total of 590 (+22). Washington State finished three strokes ahead of No. 21 Stanford, and three strokes behind No. 9 Washington.

"I am very excited about the way the girls played," said WSU Head Coach Walt Williams. "We beat Stanford at their own golf course and I don't believe that has ever been done by a Washington State team."

Junior Anastasia Kostina finished tied for eighth place, shooting 147 (+5). The tournament was Kostina's ninth top 10 finish this year, a mark that ties her with Welch (2003) for the school record of most top 10 finishes in a season.

Senior Jay-Lee Longbottom recorded her sixth consecutive top 25 finish, tying for 17th place with a score of 151 (+9). Fellow senior Maria Kostina also finished in the top 25, shooting 152 (+10) and finishing tied for 19th. Redshirt sophomore Heather O'Leary shot 164 (+22) to round out the scoring for the Cougars.

The Cougars will play their next tournament, the Pacific-10 Conference Championships, April 18-20, at Berkeley, Calif.

"I am very proud of these girls," Williams said. "This tournament gives us great momentum heading into the Pac-10 Championships."
